A modern reinterpretation of The Art of War that merges minimalist illustration, 3D symbolism, and augmented reality to explore themes of balance, conflict, while giving the book redesign a deeper hidden meaning.
Initial Sketches
Early concept sketches exploring visual direction and composition for The Art of War redesign. Each drawing experiments with perspective, symbolism, and character placement to capture the tone of strategy and introspection found in Sun Tzu’s text. These sketches helped define the visual hierarchy, focal points, and overall atmosphere before moving into digital development.
Refined Sketches
The refined sketches focus on layout, visual balance, and tone. Building on the initial concepts, these compositions simplify the imagery to highlight contrast between space and detail. The use of cranes, ink textures, and the red sun draw from traditional East Asian art to reflect the discipline and philosophy within The Art of War. This stage helped establish the final direction for color, typography, and symbolic minimalism.

Modeling
The modeling process focused on bringing the book cover to life by giving key elements physical depth and presence. Subtle details, such as the blood on the ground, were added to introduce hidden meaning and connect the visual narrative to the underlying themes of conflict and sacrifice in The Art of War.
